Why does the media omit the (D) in Democrat shenanigans?

A Tuesday article which broke the news that Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich had been arrested by federal authorities omitted his Democratic party affiliation. This is becoming increasingly more pronounced: Republican caught = party affiliation in headlines and throughout article, Democrat caught = hardly any mention of them being a Democrat.
